MAG Expands Merchant Representation at FDX Global Summit
Bryan Penny and Steve Cole of the MAG attended the Financial Data Exchange (FDX) Global Summit, held April 21–24, 2025. This marks the first time MAG personnel have attended the Global Summit event.
FDX maintains a technical standard for secure and convenient access to permissioned consumer and business financial data and is the standards-setting body for the CFPB 1033 rule created to support responsible open banking. Currently, merchants make up a very small percentage of the FDX membership, and the MAG became a member to give voice to the merchant community.
Our goals for attending were to better understand the FDX work and how the organization operates, build connections with the FDX staff and membership, and provide a merchant perspective where needed. The agenda featured over 40 sessions covering a range of topics, from legal issues in open banking to technical subjects such as the GraphQL query language.
The 2025 Q2 MAG Payments Technology Industry Engagement Report will cover many of these sessions in detail. We had many conversations with both staff and members, and there was a definite recognition that merchants are significantly underrepresented in the organization.
Overall, Bryan and Steve left the event feeling that our goals were met and even exceeded, and that the MAG had laid the foundation for a greater merchant voice in open banking.
Seattle MAG Meet-Up Highlights
The MAG recently hosted a successful Meet-Up in Seattle, bringing together 42 attendees for a day of learning, networking, and collaboration. A special thank you to our generous sponsor, Forter, and our wonderful hosts at T-Mobile for helping make this event possible.
Attendees enjoyed a fantastic lunch and happy hour, both courtesy of Forter, providing plenty of opportunities to connect and share ideas with fellow payments professionals. The agenda featured insightful sessions, including a deep dive into payments orchestration presented by Forter and Microsoft, and an informative discussion on PINless debit led by T-Mobile. Both sessions sparked meaningful conversations and offered valuable takeaways for everyone in attendance.
Thank you again to everyone who participated and helped make the Seattle Meet-Up such a success. We’re thrilled to continue building on this momentum with more meet-ups planned throughout 2025—both across the U.S. and internationally.
